The Earth Day Event to Expand the Walker Park Community Garden went very well.  We had approximately 10 folks help lay cardboard, mulch and add soil/compost mix.  The entire space was basically complete by 2 p.m.  This event provided an opportunity for people to invest in their garden, many of the volunteers will be gardeners this year at either Walker or Jefferson.

We are excited to be partnering with NCAT.  NCAT will be leasing several plots to garden with SNAP participants.  NCAT plans to work with the Fayetteville Senior Activity and Wellness Center to develop several garden cooking classes.

With community and organizational involvement and partnerships this CG will benefit  many; community gardening is a great way to meet other gardeners and to grow your own produce and flowers. Planting and caring for a garden can yield very rewarding results.  Gardening provides opportunities to be active, creative and social, as well as to establish a direct connection with nature.  Gardening promotes good overall fitness and health.

Registration for the Walker Park Community Garden will open on April 16. Registration forms and plot sign up will be available at the Parks and Recreation office at 1455 Happy Hollow Rd.  Fees will be collected when your registration form is submitted and will cover water use and secure a plot until March 1, 2013. Plot fees are $20 for 25 sq. ft., $30 for 50 sq. ft. $30, $35 for 85 sq. ft., $40 for 100 sq. ft..
